Yannic Pelletier, L'engulevent, Saint Chinian 2005, Languedoc, France

A red from a young producer from the Languedoc, composed from the typical local varieties (grenache, carignan, cinsault, syrah).

Minty, spicy, cherry, bit vegetal, smoke, tea, gasoline (?) on the nose, probably produced from a young vineyard, red and black berries, medium bodied, not very tannic, very mineral (stone-licking) on the palate, a touch too alcoholic aftertaste spoils a better all around impression. But for 10 € it's still a good value red wine from the south of France.
Greetings from Maribor!

I loved the 04 of this, and I don't usually like wines from so far south.

But, 05 was a hotter vintage. And the 04 at least was dominated by carignan.

FWIW, apparently this fellow studied with Leon Barral.
