Murat, welcome to the forum! I enjoyed talking with you in Email, and glad you found your way here.

Just so you know, I have moved your post from "Wine Travel" to the general wine-discussion forum, where I think you will get more replies.

I'm afraid we don't see very much Turkish wine in most of the US, but it is not entirely unknown - I have seen Kavaklidere here from time to time, and it's usually a very good value.

A number of years ago, it was possible to buy Yakut here in Ontario; I used to enjoy it now and then as a good, light-bodied red. Unfortunately, both it and the Çankaya were withdrawn from distribution and I haven't seen any Turkish wines here for many years.

I have a great interest in Turkish wines (and much else also relating to Turkey). Here is the only recent note I have on a Turkish wine - Kavaklidere's Kalecik Karası (I see the updated forum software accepts the ı-letter :) ). I also remember I was quite happy with Sevilen's blend of Syrah and Kalecik Karası, but couldn't find my note on that just now. Welcome to the board, Murat! From where in Turkey are you?

I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

Murat:

Welcome!

I drank several Turkish wines while on vacation in Istanbul a few years ago. Some of them were quite nice. And, yes, some of them were Kavaklidere. :)

Obviously, Turkish wines are not well distributed here, so not that well known.

I have to say that I've never had a Turkish wine that was truly outstanding----but I have had several that were very, very pleasant. And I'm all for as big a wine world as possible.

Stick around. Let us know what you think.

First Murat please accept my welcome to the forum. Then accept my dismay that I have never had a Turkish wine, and I have been drinking wine for well over 40 years. My bad I think, and I will begin to search for them. As Hoke said in his reply to you, please stay around and talk wine and other things with us.

You know, Murat, I am always excited to try wines from that general part of the world, Turkey is no exception. What fascinates me are the wines made with indigenous Turkish grapes such as Öküzgözü and Boğazkere - who needs more Merlot and Cab! Unfortunately at this time, we have no more Turkish wines here in Ontario, but I see that Kavaklidere really offers a wide product line, so it is my hope that we will see some of them again - the better ones hopefully - in Ontario.

I am not familiar with Turkish cuisine, but given Turkey's geography it only makes sense that there should be a wine culture there.
