Mathews Cellars, Bordeaux Blend, Colombia Valley, WA 2002

The colour was magenta/deep purple, opaque and dense. A fruit driven nose with Cassis, Rasberry, red fruit, backed up by vanilla, chocolate, and overtones of licorice, candy, knotty pine wood, tobacco with a whiff of petroleum. Very full-bodied taste, nicely balanced, showing fruit and vanilla with well integrated tannins.

This was my first taste ofa Washington wine and I must admit I'm very impressed. A friend of mine had brought this in after a business trip. I doubt I will have much chance to try other wines from Washington and they hardly (If ever) appear on the shelves here in Quebec.
