- 2005 G. Zeyssolff Klevener de Heiligenstein - France, Alsace, Alsace AOC (7/11/2007)
CLWS - Alsace, wines of G Zeyssolff with Olivier Zeyssholff (Central London Wine Society, London): 'Klevener de Heiligenstein' is the grape variety, a rarity in Alsace. It was planted in Heiligenstein in 1742 by the mayor who'd been impressed with it on his travels to Italy. It is not the same as the similarly named Klevner but is apparently Savignan Rose which is the same as Traminer (or Gewurtztraminer - authorities differ) but clonally different thus tastes different, and it was only recognised and allowed its AC in 1997.
Sweetish nose, boiled sweet flavours, good balance of acidity and sweetness. Socks were not knocked off, but OK all the same. (87 pts.)

Interesting note, although I must admit that the "boiled sweet flavours" sounds a bit strange..
