WTN: Dom. Roland Schmitt Tokay Pinot Gris GC Altenberg de Bergheim 04

Perfect condition, and drinking perfect right now.

Nose of waxy white flowers, with time turning to a light but definite floral smorgasbord, touch of white chocolate underneath.

Clean, bright, delicate flavors. Light wispy lemon, some golden apple/Asian apple in the middle. Curious German Riesling-esqe transparency I don't expect from a PG, but the middle body and depth of Alsace I do expect. Pinot Grigio with good acidity and, even with this light bodied version, enough typical Alsacienne heft and richness to drive it beyond pretty and into intriguing.

Some wines yell at you to get your attention. This one whispers, and gets more of my attention. Paying attention gets rewards.

It got the highest accolade from my wine-loving but pecunious wife: "You can buy more of this. Lots more." Of course, I'd already told her the ka-ching factor was only $20.

Thanks for the note Hoke,

I've only ever tasted Roland Schmitt Riesling and even then only in Alsace (I thought the Altenberg de Bergheim to be mindblowing a few years ago.) My God, $20? Buy it all.
