Martin - welcome! Glad to have you here.

I will be keen to read your insights on the 2007 vintage. Check my "Escape" thread below. We had a very interesting '98er Meulenhof Spatlese last night.

HiMartin,
Welcome to WLDG.
I hear you are an expert on the the 'dry' German Rieslings, (not the Trocken Kabinetts but the Grosses Gewachs, which is something one doesn't really hear anything about in my part of the world). I clicked through to your website but you don't mention alcohol percentages in any of your reviews. What kind of alcohols do these 'dry' styles usually attain.
Cheers,
Sue Courtney

Hi Sue,

yes, I drink a lot of "Großes Gewächs" but also dry Kabinetts. I never look at the % level, as I found out that % level is rising in the last years.
So, it is a good work of the winemaker that as a wine-drinker you don´t feel it. Right now, I was looking at a 2006 G-Max from the winery Keller in
Rheinhessen with 13,5%. But as I know this wine, I tell you that you don´t feel the 13,5%.

BTW, two weeks ago, was the well-known austrian winejournalist Michael Pronay in town and he brought a Grüner Veltliner with 14%. I had the feeling that it was 11,5% or 12%, as the wine was such balanced.

The next time, I will post a TN of a german Riesling, then I mention the %, promised. :D

Best,
Martin

P.S. Sue, right now I drink a 2005 Meßmer "Muskateller" Kabinett from the region Pfalz. Not a dry Riesling, lovely spicy, great acidity and a wonderful food-wine for all excotic dishes or as an Aperitif.
