Intro

Hi,

I was looking for info on picking up some ice wine in Prescott on a trip up north and found this place.

I thought a little intro was in order. I go by Jim and am pushing my 40's. My main hobbies are cooking & knife making. I live in northern Texas transplanted from originally Detroit via FL, VI, NJ, IL, & MO. I've served 6 years active duty Navy & now finishing 8 in the reserves.

I will say that I use more wine in cooking than I drink, but when I do I chose dry whites (for meals), sweet desert wines (any time) & white zinfandels (casual drinking). I'm not sure it qualifies for here but one of my favorite is mead.

I have a big passion for cooking. I love pastry & confections the best but do practice others. I've worked in various kitchens over the years from fast food to a fancy steak house in KCMO. After the last experience I decided to keep my cooking private so I could cook what I wanted how I wanted it and went into the phone company.

My other main interest is knife making. I picked up the bug via cooking knives. Here is one I did as part of a trade game makers play called KITH (Knife in the hat.)

I saw that Bruce Hayes lives in the Prescott area & I was hoping he could help out in my wife & I in finding some ice wine that doesn't require driving all the way to Niagara ON. We will be in Ogdensburg next week visiting the in-laws & we need some "trip gifts" for my wife's co-workers who collect & drink wine. I wouldn't mind a bottle for me ether. Though this apple ice wine has caught my attention too (I use Calvados in making my pies and I was curious how this would work.)

Thxs for your time,
Jim

Hi Jim, and thanks for the intro. Since you enjoy cooking I am sure you also found the forum kitchen when you found this forum. As to wine stores in northern Arizona, I am not familiar, however I am sure someone will be along soon to give you some advice. Welcome to the forum.

Hi Jim. Merry Christmas.

At first, I thought you meant Prescott, Arizona or something. Yep, I live in beautiful Prescott, Ontario, right across the St. Lawrence River from Ogdensburg, New York.

Any idea how many bottles of ice wine you were looking to pick up? Do you have any particular wineries in mind, or are you just looking for any old ice wine?

There is a LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) store in Prescott, but it isn't very big so I am not sure what sort of selection it might have. There is a larger LCBO store in Brockville, which is about 10-15 minutes west of Prescott, right on the major highway (the 401) so you might have better luck there.

Send me an e-mail if you want to discuss details.

Welcome to the board.

Bruce, you nearly did what I did do. I mistakenly assumed that Jim was speaking of Prescott Arizona. I don't really know how I came to that conclusion, because Prescott is in central Az, not northern Az. Happy New Year, and here is to drinking good wine.

Thanks for the welcome.

Yep I found the kitchen forum and it will take me a while to read through it, but it already looks great.

Sorry about the confusion there. Bruce has already help direct me to the right places & I should have no problems.

Welcome Jim, and be sure to join us for Chat Sessions on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings. Lots of fun there.
