So....I was assembling TheBarneyBox to take up to Breckenridge this weekend and stunbled across 3 btls. Siezing the worst looking one, Susan & I cracked it for dinner last night:
1. RosenblumCllrs LoneOakVnyd/RRV WhiteRiesling (10.5%; RS: 3%; NobleRot) 1989: Dark golden color; neautiful valve oil/petrol old Rheinpfalz Riesling slight peach/pineapple ripe complex beautiful/classic/aromatic nose; soft off-dry smooth/elegant beautiful/gentle gout de petrol/valve oil light pineapply/lush old Rheinpfalz slightly dried-out flavor; med.short lush/soft light pineapple gentle gout de petrol/valve oil slightly bitter/dried out complex/smooth finish; on the downside but, like many of us, still in wonderful shape; terrific nose but not quite deliver on the palate.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Of the 3 btls, this one was by far the worst. Ullaged about 3" below the cork (the other two are normal fill, about 1" below the cork). The cork fit rather loosely, was totally saturated throughout, but still intact and came out easily. Lotta gunk around the lip.
The LoneOak vnyd was the one that Kent originally owned up in the RRV. I believe he has since sold the property off. This is the only WR I can recall Kent made, but I may be wrong. He was, by now (1989) already known as Dr.Zin and making a reputation for his Zinfandels.
The wine was everything you could want in an old Riesling. That classic petrol/valve oil thing and very reminiscent of an old (25-30 yrs) Rheinpfalz Spatlese. A beautiful/complex nose but it just sort of gentle swish across the palate. Way above my expectations.
One of the other btls heads off to Breckenridge, the final will be shared w/ Kent up at the Taos WinterWineFestival in late January (http://www.SkiTaos.org).
