An excellent and thorough review Bob. Thanks. I want to add my own hearty recommendation for this book, which I am in the middle of enjoying, regardless of your feelings about Beaujolais or DuBouef. It is wonderful! Chelminski is a superb and intelligent writer with a great feel for detail and history. In fact DuBouef doesn't appear until the book is almost half finished - it begins with a history of the region and includes a lot of the history of wine making in France. Must reading for many on this forum I would think. Here in KY where I live, it is hard to find much Beaujolais that is not DuBoeuf, and even though I like his wines (and I'm talking mostly about the Crus Beaujolais), you begin to resent him a little for being so dominant. This book will give you great respect for his work ethic, accomplishments, and superb tasting talent, as well as make you want to go to Beaujolais and vistit every small winery you can find. By the way, Francophile Foodies take note, one of Chelminski's other books is about Bernard Loiseau, the famous 3 star chef and his La Cote d'Or restaurant in Saulieu, a small town in Burgundy, who commited suicide when it was rumored he was about to lose his third star. Another wonderful book. Anyway, read I'll Drink to That. You won't be disappointed.
