WTN: Two satisfying wines

by Saina » Tue Dec 18, 2007 4:10 pm

Foradori Teroldego Rotaliano 2004 13% abv; 20,90€

Deep and earthy scent with lots of herbs, juicy fruit. Tangy palate, long and mineral aftertaste. Very moreish. I like it. The tanginess of it worked wonderfully with a simple risotto of black trumpet mushrooms.

Niepoort Colheita 1991 Bottled 2007; 20,50% abv; 42€

Deep orange. The nose seems pretty young with more fruit than oxidative aromatics, but still with very charming orange aromas, toffee and slight earthiness. Sweet, smooth palate, with much fruit still and slight oxidative character. Very long - the nose and palate are very attractive but a bit simple, but the aftertaste is intense and seems more nuanced than the rest. A bit strange at how it only blossoms at the end, but no matter as it's a very nice wine. The alcohol is well integrated.

Tried the Foradori wines last year and was quite impressed. Sort of modern, but not too modern.
Best wishes

Yup, they are usually nice, I even like the Granato on occasion! But how do you mean this is sort of modern? It still tastes like Teroldego to me, is not overoaked... Is it just that it isn't as rustic as some examples can be?

I ran through a case of 1997 Granato with never a dull moment. Also tried the 1998 and 2001, but not as impressive.

Thanks for the Tasting note on the Foradori Otto.

I just purchased my first bottle of the same 2004 a few months ago and have been waiting to try it. After reading your tasting note, I'm very much looking forward to uncorking it over the holidays!

Based on the flavour profile, do you have any thoughts on what kind of meat dish might pair well with it?

Cheers,
Steve

Hello Steve, did you try it? I bought another bottle of it and we drank it today and I was disappointed. I now understand what Jamie was saying about modernity: this was oaky and not at all as tangy as I remembered the first bottle to have been. I must have been in an exceptional mood when drinking the last one.

I would like lamb with herbs with such a wine as my first impression of it was.
