WTN: Markus Molitor Riesling Kabinett Halbtrocken 2000

by Bruce Hayes » Sat Dec 15, 2007 9:01 pm

Zeltinger Himmelreich, MSR.

Moderate dark yellow in the glass.

Lovely nose of petrol.

Mouthwatering and zesty acidity, grapey, tart green apples, lemon, minerally, honeyed, petrol, very intense. With time, the wine became quite austere (although not unpleasant) and revealed a real acidic edge which came close to producing shivers.

A very long, mouthwatering appley finish, with something in there that reminds me of tea. That part about tea has me stumped.

The wine worked very well with a rich and decadent seafood lasagna.

Purchased at $19.95 (Canadian).

Some folks (Joe Perry), have suggested that tea notes in wine are from botrytis. That would certainly make sense for a 2000 German riesling.
