WTN: 2004 Copain Syrah Madder Lake

The cork was completely soaked through. That causes some worry since this baby is very tannic and needs a few years. On the nose there is earth, raspberry touch of white pepper. Slightly watery mouth feel. Attack of berries and red fruit punch. Fruit stays but tannins really come on. Med high acid. Seems to have the right structure to age and come into better balance but there could be a slight concern if all the corks are like that. I guess it won't be a problem over the next 2 or 3 years. At this stage you need a food match to compete with the tannin.

Thanks for the TN, Jason.
I haven't popped any of the '04's, but the '03 Copain Madder was one of the better new-world syrahs I've had.
