WTN: My First (Cru) Beaujolais!

2006 Domaine de la Voute des Crozes Cotes de Brouilly. Good review here: http://www.stylegourmet.com/wine/tas00111.htm

I would agree, with the caveat that I taste more black fruits and currant. Almost a Merlot quality, but with the delicious earthiness that France seems to do so well. Outstanding, and only $16.

Hi, Brian! I have come across a number of Cru Beaujolais I really enjoyed (and a few disappointments.) I hope you continue to find some special ones. They are a relative bargain price-wise compared to Burgundy Premier Cru or even Burgundy village wines, etc. Are you suspending the bicycle trips until spring?

I want to try Morgon next-the wine guy at this great new wine bar/restaurant in Sacramento said that would be even more "serious" (and pricier!).

I actively dislike bicycling when it's chilly out. By eastern standards, we don't get seriously "cold" (although there was hard frost last night), and I don't mind hiking or doing other things on chilly days, but something about the wind whipping on my face when it's 45 degrees out is pretty unpleasant to me. My feet tend to freeze easily, too. So...probably late February for me, although I may be persuaded/shamed into bundling up some sunny winter weekend day.

I like hiking, anyway. Or, I'll go to San Francisco and walk through the very hilly neighborhoods for exercise.

Yes, Morgon and Moulin a Vent are generally considered the more serious Crus. Some of them can age for four or five years.

And others need four or five years before they begin to show their stuff

2002 Coudert Fleurie really isn't quite ready yet.
