  They did it. Back up the truck. It's good from the get-go. Perhaps a little fuller than the 2002, it starts off with red fruits and just keeps going. Delicate, floral, beautiful stuff. When they nail it like this, I wonder what the mid-level versions are for.

That's right, when the 04 first arrived I thought it too dark, extracted, and dumb -- it had none of the lift and aromatic complexity I look for. Luckily for me, I bought blind: a bottle of the 2004 a month or so ago was terrific. The fruit has shifted from black to red, and the wine is beginning to unfold.
