Here is a note from Devines website on that Tannat!

2005 Pisano EtXe Oneko Licor de Tannat (Progreso, Uruguay)
Wine - Dessert $31.99 (375mL)

Made from the Tannat grape, this unique and intriguing dessert wine is savagely tannic. For those into the technical stuff - they started with Tannat and let most of it stay on the vine an extra month for 'late harvesting' they fermented it down to 80 grams per liter of residual sugar and topped it off with grape alcohol to stop the fermentation; then they took more grapes that they'd continued to leave on the vine for another few weeks and immersed them in the fermentation tank in whole clusters for about 6 weeks; then they finished it off by aging it in barrels for 6 months. In essence they combined processes from both port and amarone production.

Rich and complex with flavors of milk chocolate, raspberry, black pepper, plum pudding, smoke, and roasted coffee. It's quite well balanced, and, simply, a stunning sticky. Off-the-charts and highly recmmended! Try with some dark bitter semi-sweet chocolate!!

Well, I am quite surprised that this thread has drawn so little attention. Only 18 views, where are all the sticky lovers here? Strange.

That Pisano.

This late-harvest Tannat has to be one of the most extraordinary wines I have ever tasted. My chocolate mousse could not stand up to the wine`s structure! Thick chocolate browmie or bar might have worked better, maybe a deep chocolate fondue too.

The color was an inky black with a huge intense centre. On the nose I found figs, prunes, molasses, cocoa, dark fruits. Huge tannins with mocha, hazelnuts and blueberries. Also pepper, raspberry and plum. The whole mouthfeel was tannic and raw! Sure does not sound that inviting but one wonders what is going to happen to this say in 10 years? Well, I am gonna find out as I purchased one bottle!
Not the most fave wine at the tasting, many liked the Tokaji and the Moscato d`Asti. I will post notes asap.

I had a delightful LH Tannat from Uruguay that I picked up in Miami a few years ago. The 1/2 bottle sold for about $15. It was smooth, like coffee-chocolate and black cherry liqueur, not tannic at all.

That Pisano Tannat sticky sounds something special. Intense flavour complexity allied to impressive structure; plentiful sugar is just what is needed to balance the fierceness of young Tannat. Slim chance of finding it here, though. Indeed there is not much of the dry Tannat.

I wonder if anyone is trying something equivalent in Madiran?

Thanks Bernard, if you look at my second post you will note that my wine was fortified so we could be talking 2 styles of LH here. Have to say your bottle sounds most inviting, lets talk again in 5 yrs when I open mine!

Tim, a Madiran in this style? Doubt it but here come the emails!!

Reception.

`06 Chiarlo Nivole Moscato d`Asti.

Very well received and flew out of store! Fruit forward aroma with musk and honeysuckle. Soft frizzante, pear and peach. Elegant without being too serious. Nice.

Sit down tasting.

1) `04 Donnafugata Ben Rye Passito di Pantelleria.

Young tawny color, apricot and peach on the nose. Raisins, currants, figs. Long finish, rich with raspberry jam there somewhere. Very good wine, buy.

2) `01 Baron Ricasoli Castello di Brolio Vin Santo.

Darkish color, caramel on nose. Found a slight burn on finish, orange marmalade. Never know style of these, dry or sweet?? Great with biscotti I`d say. Pass. Better out there.

3) `00 Chateau Megyer Tokaji Aszu 4 Puttonyos.

WOTN for me and many there (24 participants). Light color, Robertsons Marmalade look a-like in appearance! Honey and dried fruit nose, palate had dried apricots and peach compote.Velvet and smooth, look for this one forumites.

4) `99 Chateau de Malle.

Too advanced a color for a `99, very pre-mature. Peak already? Was served too warm, cloying but will pass again if presented.

5) `04 Coyote`s Run Vidal Icewine, Ont.

Sorry but prefer riesling everytime. Thought weedy nose at first but blew off. Quite rich, tastes better than it smells. Pineapple, apricot, honey, cinnamon. Winery has some unique terroir, red clay soil as well as dark grey. These guys will master soon I hope? Did not score many points at the tasting.

6) `05 Pisano EtXe Oneko Licor de Tannat.

See my seperate note.

Here is the tread on Pisano that we were looking for this morning. Has anyone else come across this wine yet?
