Q: '89 Lynch Bages vs Palmer

by wrcstl » Mon Dec 10, 2007 11:23 am

We are having a dinner party for 6 and beef and mushrooms will abound. I have not had either of these wines since release. Saw Florida Jim's note below on the Lynch Bages. Any recent experience with these wines and which would show best this month. The guys are cooking and the goal is to offer great wines from the cellar to "the ones who must be obeyed".

Walt, I have not had the 89 Palmer in a few years, but it bares no comparison to the 89 Lynch Bages. Even with the vegetal notes that Jim found, the Lynch is a much better wine.

I did however hear that there is some bottle variation with the 89 Palmer, so the bottle I had may have been one of the underachievers

Beef, and mushrooms, and '89 Lynch Bages - sounds like a fabulous match to me.

That was the claim on the one taste of '89 Palmer I had, also. Based on that bottle, '89 Palmer would not be in top 20 '89 Bdx I've had. But who knows, it could be a situation like the '89 Beaucastels where one shipment sat on a dock in August.

'89 Lynch is one of my favorite LBs, with a Moutonesque exotic flair but not over the top.
