WTN: Banrock Station Shiraz-Mataro 2002

by Bruce Hayes » Tue Dec 04, 2007 8:24 pm

South Eastern Australia.

This is another "cellar and forget it" wine that I recently pulled out.

A lovely nose, very spicy, raspberry and cherry fruit.

Cherry, raspberry and strawberry, very spicy, quite tangy, good acidity. Sort of reminds me of cherry cough drops, which I usually associate with Grenache.

Drying finish.

A wonderful little wine, especially since I was fully prepared for it to be totally undrinkable.

I thought Banrock Station was almost in the league of Yellow Tail. I didn't think you were supposed to drink it. Could it have gotten into your cellar by mistake? You are lucky that drinking something like that with age on it didn't make you sick.

I once bought a bottle by mistake and took a sip. That's how I know about it.

Hmmm. Not sure about the comparison. All I know is that this was an enjoyable wine. I tend not to get caught up in label chasing. If I like the wine, it's a good wine.
