1999 Nicolas Potel Volnay Mitans 1er Cru
13% alcohol $59.99 at Bassin's (Macarthur Beverages, DC)
Vinified, elevated and put in bottle by Nicolas Potel.
Dark purple with deep crimson undertones. Obvious viscosity. Boysenberry on the palate. A bit austere and earthy. A wine that improves with food--medium rare roast beef or lamb or versatile enough to pair with ham. I would find it a value at under $40 but too pricey at almost $60.

2000 Jayer-Gilles Cote de Nuits-Villages
13% alcohol
Deep crimson to purple color. Viscous. Matched well with smoked ham and also with smoked cheddar, but not as outstanding as the '99 vintage from this same producer.
