1999 Pride Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa)
This wine is drinking quite well now.
Decanted 2 hours. Dense dark color that appeared cream-like/frothy when vigorously poured into the decanter. Initially some whiffs of vanilla oak that were not at all overpowering and unlike a few other Pride's I've tasted, this hint of oak seemed to disipate with a bit of air. Menthol and mocha notes.
On the palate, dark primary fruit with a lush/concentrated mouthfeel. Smooth came to mind as a descriptor despite a few tannins yet to be resolved. Solid, if not spectacular, finish.
As mentioned above this 1999 Pride is entering a nice phase. I doubt this will be a 20 year wine, but it should provide drinking pleasure for at least the next 3 or 4 years. Glad to have a few more in the cellar.
Smile, it gives your face something to do!
