85% tempranillo, 11% merlot, 4% malbec from Bodegas Santa Sofia, the venture of Spanish family Ortega Gil Fournier in La Consulta, Mendoza. Bright purple color. Aroma of crushed cherries and wet earth. Medium body, 14% abv. I have gone through a few bottles of this wine and it has always delivered. This one was probably the best of six or seven. Dusty tempranillo flavor, with ripe cherries, dark plums, earth, smoke and sweaty leather. Aged for 12 months in new oak barrels, 80% French, 20% American. A whiff of tannins, it will be better within a year or two. Medium and slightly sweet, cinnamon finish. Very good.
