Popped the cork on a bottle of 2005 Burgans Albarino from the renowned Rias Baixas region. This is my first Albo experience and having heard that it's a distincive alternative to pinot grigio I thought I'd give it a try.
Much to my disappointment, however!
Where's the distinctiveness? The "razor" sharpness as it's been described?!
Sure, there's some acid and some citrus zing, but this certainly seems to have missed the "varietal distinction" boat. Realizing, however that this was only $7 and only my first tasting I'll defenitely give it some benefit of the doubt.
But if there's some KILLER Albo out there that's just a matter of "search-and-discover" I'd really appreciate some pathsetting forumism on this.
I do have a bottle of '05 Pazo Pondal that I haven't tried that was considerably more expensive at $18. What should I expect from this stuff? I tried the Burgans stuff first, playing the percentages, trying to keep the expectation level low to start with even though I've heard raves about Spain's Albo's. I hope the only other way to go is up!
Help y'all!!
