NWR: Black Friday in Northern New England

by Carl Eppig » Sun Nov 25, 2007 2:29 pm

According to the local rags, thanks to parity, many of the shoppers in these parts last Friday were from Canada. We're guessing that may have been true for other border states too.

So how much wine went back across the border wrapped up in L.L.Bean underware?

My brother, his wife, their kids, her mother and a van load of her friends spent the weekend at the outlet malls in Waterloo, New York.

I expect he will bring back a few bottles. Thanks to the stupid Canadian customs laws, we are only permitted to bring back two bottles per person!!

Carl, the price of getting caught is so steep that I know of not one single Canadian among my many Canadian friends who would risk smuggling a bottle over.

Hey, speaking of that, as of Thanksgiving morning I have passed all the requirements and am now an official Trusted Traveler to both countries, and I get to zoom through the northern borders via the Nexus lane. And BOTH countries allowed that if I'm heading to a wine tasting I can have a bottle per person on board, too. :D
