WTN: 04 Baudrys and Pizza

2004 Bernard Baudry Chinon "Le Clos Guillot"
This starts off quite vegetal woodsey and linear, much different from the round juicy drop I enjoyed 10 months ago. But, with some hours in the decanter it provides plenty of pleasure and a nice dose of pure herbal fruit followed by fine tannins that may be increasingly closing down on the finish, but are not so harsh as to prevent pleasure.

Lovely with tomato sauce, cauliflower, and gorgonzola pizza, although next time, I would probably dial down the onions and garlic in the sauce for this wine.

2004 Bernard Baudry Chinon "Les Grézeaux"
Recent reports claim that this is angry, and indeed, upon opening it seems quite dumb. But, after several hours it also has plenty of pleasure to provide, and deep gulpable floral fruit that is more substantial than the Clos Guillot. The tannins are also more substantial, very fine, and they do encroach on the palate, but it was still fun spending time with the lovely lovely lovely fruit. YMMV.

And, lovely with tomato sauce, oyster mushroom, grana padano, and carrot-top herb pizza, good stuff.

Thanks for the notes. I haven't had a Cabernet Franc in weeks. You have inspired me to end that streak.
