WTN: Great food, not so great wines

by David M. Bueker » Fri Nov 23, 2007 11:31 am

Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. Started with a Gossett Brut Grand Reserve that ended up being corked. It started ok, but swiftly fell to the Portugese menace.

Moved on to the 2006 Kosta Browne Rosé of Pinot Noir that showed some very dry berry fruit with the barest touch of heat that was ameliorated by the food. Good wine, but the ESJ Bone-Jolly Rosé blows it off the table for my palate.

Then had a 2005 Joseph Swan Pinot Noir Saralee's Vineyard (RRV) that had some very candied red fruit and a totally hollow mid-palate. Disappointing.

Man, we've had an epidemic of that around here lately.

Luckily Laura is right-handed (she got her left thumb pretty darned bad).

Exactly what I did., with the added complication that I eat and write left-handed. Not fun at all, trying to keep the arm elevated while sleeping and showering and such.

Please give her our regards and tell her I truly share her pain.

At least I didn't get any cuts! About the only think that went well with the meal prep...
