2005 Domaine de l’Écu (Guy Bossard) Cuvée Classique Muscadet (Loire) This seems to have put on more midpalate heft over the past year. Full, rich citrus seabreeze with solid mineral core and noticeable acidity. Not as crisp and delineated as I’d like in a muscadet and at $13 I’d reach for Briords instead. Still, it’s very flavorful and works well with ahi tuna cerviche.
2001 Edgewood Late Harvest Zinfandel (Napa) Very very ripe and flavorful, boarding on raisiny but not quite there. Takes about 30min for the alcohol (17% abv) to calm down and for more sweet, dark fruit covered with milk chocolate flavor to emerge. It's a bit hot on its own but paired nicely with the blue cheeses.
