Back to my roots (wtn)

by John Treder » Tue Nov 06, 2007 11:35 pm

Sometimes I hit a bottle that reminds me why I thought I liked the stuff.

This week's white was one of those. My very brief note says: Spicy, faintly sweet, lots of melony fruit. Good. Medium length, gold color.
The key word is "good". The wine is Chateau St. Jean Sonoma County Gewürztraminer 2004. Industrial plonk, you say? I don't think so. It has the characteristics that introduced me to Gewurz, and it has characteristics that I still like. Not a hard wine to drink. And it cost me $11.99 at the grocery store. What's not to like? :-) And, 13.2% alcohol isn't going to cause unintentional flambes in my mouth.

John,

I second your opinion on the Chateau St. Jean Gewurz. We had a couple of them and they are very enjoyable wines. FWIW though it is often criticized, I don't mind the SJG Cabernets either. I comes at a pretty reasonable QPR in my opinion.
