A good white from South America?

by Kyrstyn Kralovec » Tue Nov 06, 2007 11:35 am

Our theme for our wine club on Friday is South American wines, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for interesting whites?

I would recommend the Errazuriz Estate Chardonnay or the Wild Ferment Chardonnay. I have also enjoyed in the past the Bodega Norton Chardonnay, although it has recently been discontinued in Ontario.

You will find a winner in the Cono Sur Vision label Gewurztraminer. Also think Montgras Sauvignon Blanc. Good luck!

Oh, look at the Argentina shelves, Torrontes is the grape variety and good QPR.

Bob:

Is there a significance to the "Vision Label" for the Cono Sur gewurtz? Have not had one in quite some time.

Used to drink Casablanca when I could find it but that was years ago.

Definitely agree with the Torrontes suggestion. I like the Balbo label a lot. Less so some others I have tried other than at DeVines. Rodolpho perhaps?

Great to hear from you Bob. The "Vision" label is a step up from the regular entry level wine. There is also a "20 Barrel Selection", which is P Noir I think. DeVines has it.

BTW, 123st is stocking Balbo Malbec, the terrific `03 or was it `04?

Another vote for Torrontes.... if you can find it, I suggest the San Pedro de Yacochuya Torrontes, another good option is the Quara Reserve Torrontes.
