Domaine Marc Kreydenweiss Kritt Gewurztraminer "Les Charmes," 2004

Is it a good deal at $12.00?

Thanks, Bob

Yes - I haven't tried the 2004, but prior vintages have been quite enjoyable. Bill B has tried a few vintages as well.

I think the Kreydenweiss I've had has been the Pinot Blanc but I liked that and would think the Gewurztraminer certainly worth a try at that price.

I had the '01 and '02 gewurtz. Both were yummy, Bob.

I do recall that Thor posted some concerns about more recent Kreydenweiss in one of his visits to see them.

Thanks Bill and JC -- I purchased six bottles -- list was $28 and Beekmans bought them at their distributor's auction of slow movers. Maybe Thor's concerns are well founded.

Here's what Joel Mitchell -- whose palate I usually trust -- wrote about the wine: "Refined style with good body and a complex flavor that reminds one of peach, pear, honey, & quince. Like most Alsatian wines, it smells as if it will be sweet, but it tastes dry to just off-dry. This is the perfect wine for Asian food, and it is an absurd value at this price." [Joel is a generalist, and I know that all three of you know Alsace much better than he does -- or I do for that matter.]

I'll taste one and post soon -- if they aren't great, at least I'll have some nice slow cooker wines.

Regards, Bob
