[WTN] Champagne Thienot 2006 Brut

by MattThr » Mon Nov 05, 2007 5:55 am

Aroma subdued, but evocative of rich, sweet melon with a hint of perfume.

The wine has a creamy texture which makes a surprisingly pleasant complement to the usual sharp acidity of Brut champagne. On the palate it lacks the usual distinctive biscuit flavours but compensates with good fruit - apple, pear and melon all jostling for position on the tongue and outlasting the acidity into a medium length finish.

ummmm - doesn't champagne need to be on the lees at least 18 months for NV and longer for vintage? how can there be a 2006 now?

Hmm. Fair point. I couldn't see the vintage printed anywhere on the bottle, so I just stupidly assumed it was 2006. I presume it was from the last vintage of Brut that Thienot released but since I don't know how long they mature their bottles for, that's not a lot of help :).
