WTN - Santo Cristo 60th anniversary Garnacha, DO Campo de Borja

This is a wine made to commemmorate the 60th anniversary of the Cooperativa. Most of us, when hearing it is a wine made by a cooperative producer, immediately start having our reservations (me included...).
Well, I didn't have to worry about this wine: 100% garnacha from old vines. It was quite discreet in the nose, some spicy red fruit delicately appearing. Classy nose, actually, the understatement style.
On the palate, a quite well-balanced wine, with some nice cedary touches, decent acidity (certainly for a garnacha), and some good fruit to balance the (obvious, but not dominant) barrel-ageing. Vquite a long, classy aftertaste too, nothign aggressive, but it keeps going...
No individual component really jumping out, but the seamless integration of the components gave a very nice wine, actually a great wine, and something I most certainly didn't expect in this D.O. A very nice surprise!
