Jadot 2005 Savigny-Les-Beaune

by Paul Winalski » Tue Oct 30, 2007 9:08 pm

I saw some Jadot 2005 Savigny-Les-Beaune rouge premiers crus recently at attractive prices, particularly given recent hideously high Burgundy prices. Any opinions on how Jadot fared in this commune in this vintage?

Thanks,

-Paul W.

I have not had the Savigny wines, but I was offered a taste of the Beaune Clos des Ursules the other day & it was deep, rich & balanced, and in need of serious cellar time. For what it's worth David Schildknecht gave the Savigny-les-Beaune Dominode a very good review, and called it very 2005 in style (which based on his notes means very fruity and also very tannic).

Not tasted any yet, but I think John Gilman quite liked the Guettes (but felt that it needed patience). And Burghound gave good swcores and said 2013 on for a couple of them (forget which). Pretty sure the 1ers (but not the village Savigny) are estate wines. Kobrand.com usually has good info.

The Dominode is an estate wine.

I just looked at site. Seems all 5 of the Savigny 1ers are estate (assuming labels are the same every year), while village red and white are negociant.

I haven't tried any 2005's yet (and won't for any considerable time) but I sure like Savigny wines (particularly Narbantons, Serpentieres, Guettes) and Jadot can punch out some lovely stuff from the "lesser" appellations at fairly decent prices. I'd go for them just on maker, appellation and vintage alone. Hope you do well, Paul!
Cheers,

David

Thanks, all. I like Savigny. Sounds like I should try these out.
