WTN: '96 Chartogne-Taillet Brut Cuvee Saint Anne

by David M. Bueker » Tue May 16, 2006 8:24 am

Laura and I drank this over 2 nights with no loss of aromatic or flavor interest.

Pale gold color. Rich red fruit and floral aromas. Not the most subtle mousse, but then this is the most basic vintage brut in the Chartogne-Taillet stable of wines. On the palate the richness is even more apparent, and makes this Champagne even more "wine-y". This is a Champagne to satisfy bubbly fans, as well as those who crave the depth of flavor that comes from Burgundy. Delicious to drink now, but there is fruit enough to age this for some years to come. At time of purchase this was an excellent bargain in vintage Chamapgne at $34 per bottle retail. If you can find it now it runs closer to $40 before discount.

Of all the Terry Theise Champagne imports, Chartogne-Taillet is the one we own the most of, and is the most consistently excellent in my opinion, with the exception of Vilmart (though Vilmart is much more pricey).
