WTN: 2005 Stockade Shiraz, Barossa Valley, South Australia

by JC (NC) » Tue Oct 09, 2007 5:34 pm

Produced by Rusden Wines, Imported by Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA
Stelvin closure
14.5% alcohol

I decided this didn't fit into the non-gobby focus of Wine Focus this month so will post here instead.
Dark purple edging towards black. Completely opaque. Viscous--leaves a line when the glass is tilted.
Intense, sweetish nose. Slightly gobby and sweet on the first sip; drying tannins as it glides over the palate. Something unusual in the flavors that I couldn't identify. Some grittiness on the finish.
Blueberry/dark raspberry mix with slight savor of pepper. Flavor persists for a lengthy finish. Can't see it as a dinner wine. More a blockbuster stand-alone wine.
Purchased at Wine Merchant Gourmet in Winston-Salem which also sells delicious artisanal cheeses.
