- N.V. Champagne Raymond Boulard Champagne Cuvée Reserve Brut Nature - France, Champagne (10/5/2007)
Quite a lovely, floral nose - deep and complex. The palate is very fruity despite being Brut Nature, with elegant mousse, crisp acidity and an almost endless aftertaste. Lovely. - 1993 Langwerth Von Simmern Riesling Kabinett - Germany, Rheingau (10/5/2007)
Upon opening this was strongly (and IMO very loveably) petrolly. With air, it became more floral and like ripe strawberry. The palate is softer than what the nose would suggest but with refreshing structure and moderate length. Good. - 2004 Vincent Girardin Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru (10/5/2007)
Light gold/greenish. The nose shows quite a bit of oak but has lovely nutty and citrussy fruit underneath. The palate has limpid fruit and the loveliest, bright and refreshing acidity. There is perhaps more oak than I would prefer, but also so much other aspects that I truly love, that I don't mind the oak all that much. Nice! - 1999 M. Chapoutier St. Joseph Blanc Les Granits - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph (10/5/2007)
100% Marsanne. The nose is honeyed, marzipan-like yet citrussy and mineral. The palate is very full bodied, honeyed, oily but with a lovely tannic grip to keep it refreshing so it never becomes cloying despite its size. Very nice! - 1991 Fruitiere Vinicole de Voiteur Château-Chalon - France, Jura, Château-Chalon (10/5/2007)
Nutty, oxidised, flor-like, appley - just wonderful! The palate is chalky, nicely oxidised, appley and well structured. This is just lovely, but much too young. I love it! - 1978 Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon York Creek - USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District (10/5/2007)
A stunning wine, opened IMO at just the stage of development I like my wines at. The nose is red toned, does show some oak but isn't bothersome, with some lifted aromatics, leafyness and damp earth. The palate has great fruit, refreshing acidity, and is bright and elegant in its aromatics. This is harmonious and I love it.
The back label of the bottle says: "The result is an elegant wine that should show well within a year or two, but gain complexity with three years of bottle age". Maybe 30 instead of 3 years is what they meant. - 1999 Château Bouscassé Madiran - France, Southwest France, Madiran (10/5/2007)
Very dark red. The nose is just lovely with scents of bloody meat, herbs and violets. The palate is very tannic but it still has lovely savoury complexity and enough fruit to be perfectly balanced. Youthful, but lovely. - 1986 Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey - France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes (10/5/2007)
Deep colour. The nose is a bit foursquare: much oak, botrytis and spicy sweetness. The palate, however, is much more interesting: refreshing acidity, moderate sweetness (not cloying at all), more integrated oak than on the nose. The palate is delineated and elegant; the nose is oaky and a bit clunky. Nice stuff anyway.
