SFChron: Antinori Calif Project....

by TomHill » Fri Oct 05, 2007 2:55 pm

Interesting (to some, anyway) article in today's SFChron by Jon Bonne and PieroAntinori's Calif project (Antica wine) and his taking over the AtlasPeakVnyd next Fall in its entirety. I thought this was good news until I read it was going to focus on Cabernet and the Sangiovese was going bye-bye. So sad. If anybody could make great Calif Sangio (and it will happen..trust me) it would be PieroAntinori. Ho...hum...just what we need...another NapaVlly Cabernet.
Back in the '80's, Dick Peterson made from AtlasPeak grapes a Refosco/Mondeuse that DarrellCorti bought the whole shebang and bottled under the CortiBros label. It was delicious stuff in a rough/rustic way like many of the Italian Refoschi, but lacked the minerality of the Savoie Mondeuse. Those vines, alas, are long gone. So we'll have to rely on Mike Officer and CaroleMeredith/SteveLagier to make the world's great Mondeuse.
