2005 Easton, Amador County, Zinfandel ($14 U.S.). Tech data: alcohol 14.5%, pH 3.55, and acid 6.5 grams/ltr.
Despite warnings we’ve heard about the '05 CA Zins, this one was spot on; neither lean nor overblown. It gives you blackberries and black cherries on the nose and upfront. Another half ton of fruit and spice lend to the complexity in the middle. It is well balanced and smooth as silk, and the finish lingers.
We matched it with loin ends Teriyaki, brown Basmati rice, and sliced Brandywine tomatoes.
It all added up to a very nice Wednesday night; and a terrific value in a Zin. Don't fear this '05!
