First was the Domaine Chandon de Brialles burgundy that I posted on a couple of days ago, and tonight I opened a 2001 Ridge Geyserville that, though it tasted different (of course), also showed signs of having suffered an early demise.
Dark, opaque purple, not much nose, strong but not oppressive tannin, opening over an hour or so to show blackberry fruit, but the 18% Carignane is dominating right now. It's very good and will be better in 5 years or so. I've told my spreadsheet. I hope it listened.
It has 7% Petite Sirah and the remaining 74% is Zin. 14.4% alcohol, $29.99 at Cosentino's, a local supermarket, in Nov. 2004.
Dang it! One of these days I'll have to enlarge my cellar!
