WTN: Amado Sur Malbec-Bonarda-Syrah 2005

by Bruce Hayes » Tue Oct 02, 2007 5:16 pm

Mendoza Valley.
Trivento.

A blend of 70 per cent Malbec, 18 per cent Bonarda and 12 Syrah.

Very dark purple in the glass.

The nose took a while to show itself, finally revealing tangy, cranberry-like fruit, chocolate and spices.

Quite full, thick and smooth in the mouth, floral, peppery, very juicy and tangy cherry fruit, vanilla, spicy, chocolate, turning a bit bitter toward the end.

A drying finish.

A good wine but I guess I had expected something a bit more interesting and exotic, based on selection of grapes for this wine.

Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian).

What do you think the Bonarda brought to the wine, Bruce? Had at a store tasting last week a 100% Argentinean Bonardo, and it was juicy and fruity and like a nice Dolcetto! For $10 you can't expect profundity, but fun wines are nice, too!

Can't really comment on that Brian. I have had very limited experience with this grape.

The wine is made by Trivento, Alejandro. On the label, the name Trivento appears at the top and the words "Amado Sur" appear below in larger script.
