WTN: Mostly Chianti

Short notes from another Center for Asian Culinary Arts dinner advertised as a Tuscan inspired meal so the wine highlights were Chianti.

Tosti Asti - Very sweet and fresh. Apples and grapes. Nice bit of acidity on the finish. Quite good.

Leasingham Circa Riesling 2006 - Some smokiness. Lots of lemony acidity. Too acidic for me.

St. Savin Bordeaux Blanc 2003 - Deep yellow. Looked too old but still had a bitof life in it. Soft. A hint of marshmallow. Dryish finish. Not bad but needs drinking.

Cerro Anon Rioja Reserva 1999 - Meaty nose. Dry with a slight spiciness. Dried fruit. Soft tannins. Probably at peak now. There is a prominent acidity in the finish. Good but nothing special.

Frescobaldi Chianti Rufina Castello di Nipozzano 2003 - Lots of fruit. Lush mouthfeel but finishes with firm tannins. Good.

Antinori Peppoli 2001 - Dark, fruity, meaty. Very soft and ready to drink although it could probably take another year or two of age. Good.

Ruffino Riserva Ducale Oro Chianti Classico Riserva 2001 - Very dark. Dense but smooth. Lots of sweet, ripe fruit which makes it just a bit New Worldy in style. Very long. Drinking nicely now though it has the structure to age some more. Real easy to drink. Very enjoyable.

As does the much too obvious oak IMO. Glad you liked it, though. Thanks for all the recent notes from the CforACA dinners - I haven't had much to respond to but I enjoy reading them!

I just found the Ruffino a little "generic." I can't even describe what I mean. :?

Seems I have more tolerance for oak than you do, Otto. I didn't find the Ruffino particularly oaky.

Thanks for reading my rather abbreviated notes. One more CACS dinner tonight, then a St. Clair dinner with teppanyaki tomorrow then I can lay off the booze for a few days.

Kinda. It tastes like Chianti, so maybe what I really mean is it doesn't taste all that special-especially for the price.
