WTN: 1994 Bollig-Lehnert Trittenheimer Altarchen ***Auslese

I spotted this wine today at my local food coop. I was amazed to find a 1994 auslese from the MSR there at $17.99 (US). Extracting the cork was a challenge, but the 8% alcohol wine is quite pleasant. Still very light green in color, the nose reveals a slight petrolly/forest pine element, and the taste is of a very well integrated wine with hints of green apple, peach, hints of orange, and stoniness. Acidity is adequate, and I can tell this wine was once sweeter than it is now. It lacks a bit of concentration in the middle, but has a long appley finish to my taste. Pleasant, not great, but worth trying for the experience of an older, integrated riesling. This was my first Bollig-Lehnert wine, and I'd like to try more. Jim Vandegriff

I left this wine open in the refrigerator overnight. The second evening the color had deepened to yellow gold, and the wine was sweeter, a little more loose knit, and had a hint of honey in the flavors. Again, a nice wine overall. Jim Vandegriff
