WTN: Peninsula Ridge Viognier 2006

by Bruce Hayes » Tue Sep 25, 2007 9:00 am

Niagara Peninsula.

Very perfumed nose, honeyed, fleshy and juicy grapefruit with smells that bring to mind a field right after a rainfall.

Very tangy, rhubarb, lemon, fleshy ruby grapefruit, very floral, peppery, candied, sort of like red licorice (which I admit is odd for a white wine). Delicious and refreshing.

Spicy, tangy and peppery finish, with tonnes of juicy ruby grapefruit.

A very tasty wine.

Purchased at $13.95 (Canadian).

Thanks for the notes, Bruce.

I haven't had this wine but your notes read typical of 2006 Ontario whites in general. It was a difficult September with lots of rain and no sun last year, but I've been surprised just how good the whites managed to turn out. That minerally grapefruity crispness seems quite similar across the board.
