2005 Matchbook Tempranillo Dunnigan Hills Yolo County California. Beekmans, Glen Rock; $16.99. 13.6% alcohol.

A very pretty wine with excellent Tempranillo fruit, deep red color, deep hue, restrained fruit aroma with hints of spice, very good fruit tastes with hints of Malbec that enhanced the Tempranillo, medium mouth feel, medium finish, light tannins. No EGA. 3*.

This wine would be delicious with a spicy Mexican meal. The best Tempranillo I've had from California.

Notes: http://www.crewwines.com/

Blend: 80% Tempranillo, 10% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Graciano. Production: 1913 cases.

This was a warmer season than normal on average which accelerated the early fruit ripening. A cool August allowed the grapes to hang on the vine well into September which produced incredible quality.

After one day of cold soak, the tank was bled to concentrate the flavors. We pressed off at three to zero Brix after an eight day fermentation to allow brighter, cleaner fruit expression and to avoid heavy tannins. After two aerative rackings, the wine went down to barrel in October 2005 and was blended in May of the following year. The wine was bottled one year later, in May 2007.
