From a winery in Nevada County. 13.5% alcohol, I believe around $20 for the bottle from the tasting room.
Clear garnet red color. Nose of black cherry with a touch of smoke. Sweet-fruit attack, with more of that cherry character. Tannins come in at mid-palate with more of the dark fruit. Could use just a touch more acidity, but it's not flabby. Finish is tannins and dark fruit with just a hint of the herbaceous coming through.
Overall, a very tasty daily drinker (or it would be if it were a few dollars cheaper). I can't say it reminds me of the Loire - it's a little ripe for that - but it's not your average Cal cab franc either. That green character is almost completely absent, so this comes across as a very friendly ambassador for the variety. Although not a particularly complex or profound wine, it whets my appetite for more cab francs from this area.
