2003 Dom des Roches Neuves Terres Chaudes Saumur Champigny 13%abv. This was very dark opaque purple, the black fruits seemed thick and there was a slight gritty mouthfeel with big although ripe tannins. No overt woody flavors. Very low acidity made it seem quite stolid. This should be better with time, but it seemed too unbalanced by the low acidity to be ever great. I haven't tried the wines from here before so was wondering if this is typical of their style or maybe just a problem with the 03 vintage. The guy at the wine store tried to talk me into a bottle of the 02 Marginale, but I backed off when he mentioned the new oak used on this cuvee. I didn't really enjoy the Terres Chaudes, maybe I should have listened to the salesman.
