1999 Weingut Willi Bründlmayer Riesling Alte Reben Zöbinger Heiligenstein - Austria, Niederösterreich, Kamptal (9/5/2007)This is the first of my stash I've tried, and I'm surprised to see how far along it is. I was expecting the early side of ready and instead found it a peak. It's already a deep gold. While the acidity is there holding everything in place, I don't see any upside. It's an opulent, full-bodied style with clove and citrus peel and some pit fruits.

2004 Hans Wirsching Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg Riesling Spatlese Trocken - Germany, Franken (9/5/2007)Wirsching is a genius. I think this bottle was at least starting to shut down, but, even so, this is a terrific bottle. It reminded me of Nigl's Privat. I can't get over the purity and the essence of minerals it conveyed without any bitterness or austerity. Much more linear than the 05 has shown recently.

2005 Weingut Falkenstein Sonnenberg Riesling Auslese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer, Mosel (9/5/2007)This is a beautiful bottle of wine. It's at about 11% and just medium-sweet with everything in place -- the rainwater thing over rocks, some white floral notes, slate, and just a touch of flesh. It's got impressive depth without flaunting. Ultimately this is a wine of finesse. What a great tip this was!
