I have been fortunate to taste some nice wines from Seppelt in the past so here are some notes from recent patio parties here at Doris Ranch.
WTN: `04 Seppelt Shiraz Sparkling Great Western, Victoria.
Color is a crimson purple, a nice froth as we pour. On the nose, I found lots of cherry, nice aromatics here w. some earthyness and blackberry pie notes. The palate showed off cassis, black pepper, great length and tannic structure. Not everyone was too keen on this one, a big wine indeed!
WTN: `04 Pinot Gris Coborra, Seppelt Victoria.
Label indicates Drumborg Vineyard Henty. SC, $25 Cdn, 13% alc.
First varietal release from this winery I believe.
Medium straw color, no green tinges. Nose is zesty citrus perfume w. pear apple. Lanolin? Not sure. Initial mouthfeel entry is dry, lots acidity, citrus. There is a crisp herby mid-palate, but indistinct fruit here. Tad neutral but many would recognise as PG (I hope). The zesty finish could have used some creamyness I feel. First release so will follow progress.
