Jean-Paul Picard Sancerre Loire Valley France. Beekman, Glen Rock, $20.99. Sauvignon Blanc 100%; 12.5% alcohol.
Pale yellow color, clear hue, lovely aromas and tastes of orange fruit, fresh grass and mineral notes, crisp acidity, long finish with citrus and mineral notes, very refreshing. No EGA. 4*.
Worked beautifully with a mixed vegetable salad with crumbled goat cheese, and lightly grilled fresh sardines and mixed vegetables.
Notes:
Beekman: Jean-Paul Picard has a 10 hectare vineyard in the hamlet of Bué, considered one of the finest areas in Sancerre. The slopes surrounding this hamlet have outstanding clay-limestone soils, sunny southwestern exposures and ideal elevations. Picard makes his Sancerre Blanc from the Grand Chemarin and Chene Marchand vineyards. This beauty has a fresh grass, minerally bouquet with lots of orange-citrus fruit on the palate and a clean, refreshing finish. This wine's elegance and balance make it an ideal match for a range of white meat and fish dishes.
