2001 Ridge Zinfandel California Essence Lytton Estate - USA, California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley (8/31/2007)
Initial whiff of VA but it blew off quickly and there was essence (yes) of crushed raspberries with a touch of vanilla and dark chocolate. This is fun stuff. Not as concentrated as a vintage Port, but holding some of the same forward fruity and chocolate notes as a young one. Good acidity and some drying tannins, and there's so much fruit that this has a long and promising future. Too bad I only have one bottle left.
