WTN: Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon 1989 Napa

For a while, back in the days when I had lots of money (well, less expenses shall we say) I managed to assemble a small vertical of Dunn Napas, from 1987 to 1991.

The price of the bottles began to increase in leaps and bounds and a new house and a second car started sucking what was disposable income from my savings account.

Over the last several years I have sampled a few bottles in my little collection and, even after decanting, found them stern, fairly ungiving wines.

Decided to try again last night with a BBQ venison steak. Wow, was this a pleasant surprise!!!

Very dark purple, which I found quite surprising, given its age.

Dusty, fairly fleshy cherry and blueberry fruit, medium-bodied, tarry, spicy, peppery. Some mouth-drying tannins toward the end, but quite manageable. Long finish with fruit that could almost be described as sweet.

This wine was quite delicious. I guess good things to come to those who wait!
