WTN: 1998 Clos du Mont Olivet Chateauneuf-du-Pape "Selection Reflets"

Inspired by Robin's notes from Semi-Cool, we opened this for tonight's lasagna supper. To my tastes, this is ready to go!

Slightly evolved in color. Immediately open on the nose and palate. Nice red fruits and spice aromas. A bit of meat and wild, exotic spice on the bouquet! On the palate, it initially came across as tangy and quite spicy. With air time, the spices differentiated revealing cummin and pepper against a red fruit backdrop. Nicely balanced, and no heat or off flavors. Decent length with resolved tannins. I'd say this was at least as interesting to sniff as it was to drink. Quite memorable! Gone are the days, perhaps, when $17 will buy as much flavor as this in a red wine? Alas, this was my last bottle from my passive cellar!

Yes indeed. Sounds like a good price gone the way of history..
